Death Notice of Joe Detzler

Joseph George Edwin Detzler, of Durham, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, July 23rd, 2021 in his 87th year with his wife, son Tracy, and daughter-in-law by his side. Beloved husband of the former Sherrin Leatham (nee Bundscho). Loving father of Tracy Detzler and his wife Debbie, Lezlee Detzler and her partner Janet, and Dale Detzler. Cherished grandfather of April and her partner Anup, Cole, Evan and his partner Lynn, Chloe, Amelia and her partner James. Step-father of Kerry and her husband Ed Rouse, and Kelly and her husband Brian Hall. Step-grandfather of Shelby and her husband Chad, and Graham and his partner Jenna, and step-great-grandfather of Bailey. Dear brother of Alberta and her husband Wes Rix, and Kathy and her husband Sandy Limebeer, and brother-in-law of Cathy Detzler. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Paul Detzler. Joe owned and operated Detzler Plumbing and Heating for 38 years, and he was proudly active in his community as the Commissioner of the Durham Public Utilities Commission and he served as President of the Durham Kinsmen Club. Joe enjoyed woodworking and cabinet making, and was an avid collector of vintage radios. He was a licensed pilot and a lifetime member of the Harriston Pistol Club.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 31st. A public committal service will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Durham on Saturday at 12:15 p.m., where everyone is welcome to attend and we encourage you to register by contacting the Funeral Home at 519-369-3837 or by visiting the death notice on the Funeral Home website (www.mccullochwatsonfuneralhome.ca) and click "make a reservation" to confirm your attendance. Physical distancing protocols will be in place at the cemetery. The video will remain posted for viewing afterwards.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to St. Mary's General Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
