James Allen "ACE" NIXON
July 19, 1930 - October 12, 2020
Our family is deeply saddened to announce Dad's passing on Monday, October 12th, 2020, in his 91st year. Loving husband of the late Florence (nee Bell), wonderful father to the late Allan (Brenda), Donna Mansfield (John Magee), Carol-Ann McCoy (Wayne), Jim (Carolyn) and Pam (Brian Lavergne). He will be deeply missed by his 7 grandchildren: Amy (David), Melissa (Steve), Jamie (Shelby), Dwayne (Sarah), Michael (Teresa), Stephanie (Jamie) and Jacqueline, and 12 great-grandchildren. Grampa Jim will also be fondly remembered by Dana Howes and Andy Aitken. Dear brother of Shirley Sweeney, Robert Nixon (Leanne) and Gary Nixon (Judy), and brother-in-law of Pauline Nixon, Bonnie Nixon and Kay Gallagher. He is predeceased by his parents, Raeburn and Jana "Jennie" Nixon, and his siblings: Gwen Whiteside, Bill, Lorraine Reaburn, Elma Cupskey, Dave, Bev "Wolfie" and Dennis.
From a young age, Dad became known for his outstanding hockey abilities. He was inducted into the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame for Hockey, recognizing his early accomplishments; he played hockey in Collingwood for the Shipbuilders in the 60's. He received numerous Ontario titles as Coach and player with the Durham Huskies and later as provincial champion as Coach of the Hanover Barons.
Dad signed a professional hockey contract when he was 17 years old with the Providence Reds, of the American Hockey League, but made his decision to stay at home and play locally.
Dad was surrounded by love his entire life, and this remained true, as we had all been with him when he left us to join Mom, Allan and his family that went on ahead.

A private funeral service celebrating the life of James Nixon will be held. Friends and extended family are welcome to view the service via live stream on Friday at 1 p.m. by visiting the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/mccullochwatson/). Interment at Durham Cemetery.
