Death Notice of Catherine Greenleaf

Catherine Margaret Greenleaf (nee Watson) passed away peacefully at Rockwood Terrace, Durham on Thursday, August 8th, 2024 in her 104th year. Predeceased by her husband Curtis Greenleaf in 1994; and her sisters Nora, Agnes and Mary Watson. She will be missed by her niece Deborah and Boyd Sims-Williams of Durham, England; and her late nephew John Willing. Catherine leaves behind many good friends and relatives in Durham and Toronto and especially Barbara Watson, Denise Desroches, Diana Leoni and Carol Routenburg.

Catherine (Katie) graduated as a registered nursed in 1942 from St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto. She joined the Royal Canadian Medical Corp in 1943 and served overseas for three years, from 1944 – 1946, with 23 Canadian General Hospital. She was also a lifelong member of the Canadian Nursing Sisters Association. After marrying Curt, they served in the Canadian Army in England, Washington and Moscow. 

On Curt’s retirement, they moved to Durham and with her sister, Agnes, opened the DF Shop.

Catherine (Katie) was fortunate to have so many lifelong and wonderful friends along the way and she is forever grateful for their love and friendship. 

Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Durham on Saturday, August 17th at 11 a.m. Interment of cremated remains at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Durham Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
