Linda Burns-Bowler

Linda Elaine Burns-Bowler of Markdale, formerly of Guelph and Wingham, passed away peacefully at her home on September 28, 2024. Linda was the beloved wife of Gerry “Pete” Bowler of Markdale. Treasured mother of Bethany (Shawn), Rachel, Liam (Shannon), Sian, Carla (Dieter) and Candace (Dallas). Loving and proud Grandma of Dominic, Luke, Ariana, Magnum, Audrey, Cooper, Bella, Leah, Jace and Colby. Predeceased by her parents William and Reta Burns and sister Marnie McCord of Guelph. Survived by her sister Betty-Jean Hulme of Guelph, brothers John (Charlie) Burns of Pincher Creek AB, and Brian (Louise) Burns of Waterloo, as well as scads of loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and cherished friends.

A native of Guelph, Ontario, Linda was, without question, a woman of innumerable talents. As a girl, she was a celebrated Highland Dancer of National accolades, and worked summers in accounting at Biltmore Hats before graduating from John F. Ross CVl. She went on to excel in marketing for a number of companies, including Dictaphone and professional firms in Manhattan. Later, Linda worked as a sales and design representative for Royal Homes, as well as a trusted financial advisor in Wingham, Ontario. If she set out to achieve something, there was nothing Linda couldn’t conquer, from training and showing horses to exquisite culinary feats, complex sewing or rug-hooking projects, teaching dance, playing piano or organizing a fundraising concert. She was widely known for her off-beat humour and tendency to break into song or dance. Her diverse gifts were gladly shared with those lucky enough to be in her circle of influence.

Though she was both a savvy businesswoman and artful homemaker, Linda was defined, first and foremost, by her faith in God and her family connections. Linda was a passionate advocate for the most vulnerable and a blessing to those in her path, across many ministries in Huron and Grey Counties, from Home with a Heart to the The Cancer Society, hospital chaplaincy team and bereavement luncheons. She was a fiercely loving mother, step-mother and grandmother, who drew in countless others around her dinner table with her unbounded hospitality (and butter tarts!). Linda’s faith inspired many as she faced a debilitating cancer with incredible courage and strength. After more than five years of grace-filled struggle, Linda is now resting in the arms of her Saviour. She will be missed beyond measure.

Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 from 2 - 4 p.m. and from 7 - 9 p.m. at McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham, Ontario. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 4th, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Gentle Shepherd, Eugenia, Ontario. The service will be recorded to watch at a later date on the funeral home website (www.mccullochwatsonfuneralhome.ca). As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Centre Grey Health Services Foundation or Ramoth Life Centre of Mount Forest would be appreciated by the family.
