Horst Jaekel

Horst Robert Jaekel, of Durham, passed away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton on Thursday, December 5th, 2024 in his 94th year. Beloved husband for 65 years of Christa (nee Schuett). Loving father of Esther and her husband Steve Torry, and Kevin Jaekel and his wife Veronica. Cherished grandfather of Adam Torry, Bryce Jaekel and his fiancée Erica, and Brandon Jaekel and his friend Hailey. Dear brother of Helga Schnute, and brother-in-law of Anita and the late Elwin Eckhardt. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Horst, and by his four-legged companion, Ellie.  Predeceased by his parents Robert and Charlotte Jaekel and his infant sister Renate.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 15th at 3 p.m., with visitation prior to the service from 1 – 2:45 p.m. Spring interment at Durham Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Durham Food Bank or Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.
