Death Notice of Gordon "Gord" Bennett
Gordon George Bennett, of Markdale, passed away at Brightshores Health System, Markdale on Saturday, January 11th, 2025 in his 81st year with loved ones by his side. Beloved husband of the late Mary Louise Bennett (nee MacMillan). Loving father of Sheri Bennett, Tricia and her husband Ken Peterson, and Theresa Bennett. Cherished grandfather of Damien and his partner Leah, Terell, Tristan, Kendra and Joseph. Dear brother of Raymond Bennett and dear brother-in-law of Michael MacMillan (Marg), the late Paul MacMillan (Mary), Francis MacMillan (Susan), Cathy McNeil (Bob), Gerry MacMillan (Jeanette) Patrick MacMillan, and the late Don MacMillan (the late Trudy). Beloved friend of Elaine Coleman.
Predeceased by his siblings Edward Bennett, Reginald Bennett (the late Joan), Frank Bennett (the late Isabelle), Ross Bennett (Bernice), Howard Bennett, and sisters Dorothy Brown (the late Jim) and Marjorie Brown (the late Harold).
Gord dedicated many wonderful years to Nordic Furniture, where his hard work and commitment were evident to all. Outside of work, Gord's heart belonged to his beloved daughters, grandchildren and the love of his life Mary. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was enjoying time at the beach, watching a hockey game or the Christmas movie Home Alone every year with his grandkids, or simply chatting on the deck. His love for his family was boundless, and he always made time to be present in their lives.
Gord also had a profound love for his horses and cattle. You could also always get an hourly update on the weather, by asking Gord. On the weekends, Gord would often gather with friends and family for a game of cards.
Gord's gentle spirit will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His kindness, love for family, and passion for life created a lasting impact that will resonate in our hearts forever. As we celebrate his life, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and strive to honor his memory by spreading love and kindness in our own lives.
Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Monday, January 20th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Gordon’s life will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Spring interment at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
