Marg Kennedy

Margaret Rose Kennedy
December 12, 1938 - January 21, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Rose Kennedy (nee Hazell) in her 87th year. 

Margaret was born in Brantford, Ontario to parents Sydney and Margaret Hazell. She pursued a career in hairdressing until the love of her life, Tom Kennedy swept into her life on his Harley Davidson. They married at a young age. Marg gave up her hairdressing to follow Tom in his construction business across the country while they raised 6 children together. They eventually settled in the Durham area where they built Varney Speedway and Durham 3 Way Demolition alongside Tom’s brothers and families. 

Marg helped run the concession booth at the Varney Speedway for many years. She was also an active member of Diabetes Canada (formerly Canadian Diabetes Association). 

Marg is survived by her husband of 69 years Thomas Kennedy and their 6 children, Darlene (Brian), Tim, Julie (Steve), Stephanie (Paul), Penny and Steven (Michelle). She was also the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren, Jeffery (Tammy), Tom (Lauren), Chris (Brittany), Anna (Cole), Katrina, Rob (Nicole), Amanada (Chris), Josh (Michelle), Justin (Courtney), Alex (Natalie), Alicia (Todd), Natasha, Katelyn, Brooklyn, Tyler and Amelia as well as 29 great-grandchildren. 

Marg will be missed by her brother Harold Hazell, his wife Carol and numerous in laws. 

Marg was predeceased by her parents, son-in-law Wayne Petty and grandchildren, Natalie, Jason and Richard. 

Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Tuesday, January 28th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Marg’s life will be held at the Durham Legion, 271 Bruce Street North, Durham on Wednesday, January 29th at 1 p.m. Spring interment at Maplewood Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.
