AnnaJane Elizabeth Gruber (nee Altrogge), of Hanover, passed away at Rockwood Terrace, Durham, Ontario on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, in her 84th year. She was born August 15, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Harland and Anna Altrogge. She married Wilhelm Gruber on May 15, 1965, and they had three children, Susanne (Robert) Marshall of Skaneateles, New York, Heidi Gruber of St. Augustine, Florida, and Bill (Brijette) Gruber of Bradford, Ontario. She was the cherished grandmother of Joshua Marshall, Christina (Kyle) Cherchio, Jonathon (Brianna) Marshall, Evan Gruber, and Jackson Gruber. Great-grandmother of Isla, Benjamin, Alessia, and Silas.
Anna had a deep love for sewing and baking, talents she used to bring warmth and joy to those around her. Her passion for these arts was a reflection of her generosity and care, always ensuring that family and friends were wrapped in both love and warmth—whether through a carefully stitched gift or a delicious homemade treat.
Dear sister of Patricia (Lance) Elias, Michael (Kathy) Altrogge, Sally (Dennie) Campbell, Dennis (Dorothy) Altrogge, Karen (Robert) Taylor, and Gregory (the late Janie) Altrogge. Predeceased by her beloved sister Donna Pennington and her late husband Roman.
A funeral service celebrating Anna’s life will be held at First St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Hanover on Wednesday, February 19 at 11 a.m., with visitation prior to the service from 10 - 10:45 a.m. Spring interment at Greenfield Cemetery, Arthur. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to The LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League), of which Anna was very involved for over 50 years. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
