James Patrick Smith, formerly of Durham, passed away at Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich on Monday, January 22nd, 2018 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Hilaria Smith. Loving father of Edith and her husband Gino DiPede of Scarborough, Linda and her husband Dennis Whaling of Exeter, and Joan Smith of St. Marys. Cherished grandfather of Jamie, Laura and Nick DiPede, Chris, Michael, Paul and David Whaling, and Nora Smith. Fondly remembered by his great-grandchildren Dean, Sam and Piper Whaling, Ava and Dane Cody, Anna and Ibiza DiPede. Dear brother of Mary Smith and the late Ann Rivard and her late husband Reg. Predeceased by his infant son James.

Friends may call at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Wednesday, January 24th, where a vigil prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 308 will then hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Durham, on Thursday, January 25th at 1 p.m.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
