Death Notice of Helena Elisabetha Sinning
SINNING, Helena Elisabetha (nee Karthein)
November 7, 1938 – February 27, 2016
Helena Sinning, in her 78th year, died on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Rockwood Terrace, a long term care facility in Durham, Ontario. Well before becoming a resident there, Helena had been a volunteer at the home for many years.
Helena was predeceased by her husband Henry.
Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, Helena was the beloved daughter of the late Elisabetha and Wilhelm Karthein and the sister of Ralph (Barbara) of Port Perry and Markham. Helena is fondly remembered by her nephews, Joe Karthein of Krestova, British Columbia, James (Tammy Lee) Karthein of Krestova, British Columbia and her niece Karon (Roy) Sinning of Paris, Ontario and by their respective families.
Helena excelled at travelling and making friends. As a young adult she lived and worked in Kitchener, Ontario; Santa Monica, California; Frankfurt, Germany; Buffalo, New York; and Toronto, Ontario earning life time friendships along the way. In later life, Helena turned her people skills to two decades of public volunteer work in Naples, Florida and in Grey Bruce Counties, Ontario.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass for Helena will be celebrated in April at St. Peter Catholic Church in Durham, Ontario and a reception there will follow. Below is a picture of Helena and her good friend the late Art Long in happier days at Rockwood Terrace.
Rather than flowers, donations in memory of Helena to St. Peter Catholic Church, Durham and/or to Rockwood Terrace, Durham would be greatly appreciated. Both facilities are under appreciated and need your help.
